Samode Safari Lodge is a recent arrival in the Bandhavgarh area and is the first safari lodge by the Samode family who own heritage properties in and near Jaipur in Rajasthan. The lodge is located just a 10 minute drive from a very quiet gate into the national park, which has been offering excellent tiger sightings recently. We really rate this lodge in terms of style, sophistication and service.
Bandhavgarh National Park is one of India’s most beautiful national parks, with a dramatic landscape featuring dense Sal tropical jungle and woodlands, and steep rocky hills with flat grasslands in the valleys below. It supports one of the highest densities of tigers and other cats on the subcontinent, together with a wide variety of other wildlife and birds. A 10th-century, 35-foot reclining statue of Lord Vishnu and a 2000-year-old fort offer a cultural dimension too.
Samode Safari Lodge is a chic boutique lodge set in 11 acres of open grassland on the edge of a forest, just 10 minutes from a quiet gate into the park. African safari lodges have inspired the concept. 12 spacious cottage suites, built of mud and local materials in the traditional style, are scattered around the property and all face the forest. Each cottage has big glass sliding doors onto its own private covered verandah, and is lavishly appointed with hidden plasma screens, ipod dock, espresso machine, overhead fan and full air conditioning.
The communal area of the lodge comprises a large indoor and outdoor wooden deck raised high on stilts, with magnificent views over a small watering hole where wildlife can be seen coming to drink. Indian artwork and fantastic wildlife photography dot the walls. A wooden walkway connects the dining area, also raised on stilts. There is a swimming pool, separate library area, internet room and spa.
Game drives are offered mornings (0600-1030) and afternoons (1500-1815), except on Wednesday afternoons - this is a good time to enjoy a spa treatment, visit a local village or just relax in the lodge. The vehicles here are open mahindra 4x4s which can take 6 guests. Elephant safaris and nature walks may be available.
