People mainly go to Agra to experience the beautiful Taj Maahal, built by Moghul emperor Shah Jahan in 1653 for his late wife. It is a stunningly beautiful Moghul construction, with influences from Persian, Turkish, Islamic and Indian styles. Agra forms part of what is called the 'golden triangle', along with Delhi and Jaipur.
During the rule of Akbar (1556 to 1605 A.D.), Agra became world renowned for its beauty, and was counted as one of the great and beautiful cities of Medinal India. Emperor Akbar constructed many beautiful buildings, which included Fatehpur Sikri on the road to Jaipur, and the Agra Amber Fort.
During his rule Akbar declared the concept of "Sulah Kul", in which people of all castes and religions should live in harmony. Agra is certainly worth a visit if your India holiday itinerary might include it.
