A drive up the coast from Ho Chi Minh City brings you to the once-small fishing village of Phan Thiet. This pretty beach resort has now become one of Vietnam's newest tourist hot spots.
Even though it has grown over the last few years, Phan Thiet has still managed to retain its small-town origins; the locals are still happy to engage in a quick chat, and you can enjoy some very good authentic local food.
The big draw here are the beaches, and due to its proximity to Ho Chi Minh City it does get a lot of city weekenders, but there is enough space for everyone to enjoy.
The area is also famed for its annual windsurfing competitions.
