Things to See and Do:
The Petronas Twin Towers are perhaps the most iconic of all of Malaysia’s buildings, located in the vibrant Golden Triangle area of the city, over a luxurious shopping mall, altogether a sure sign of contemporary Malaysia. Arrive early for a chance to visit the skybridge on level 42, which links the two towers and then up to level 86 for the Observation deck where you will be able to see KL in all its glory - spectacular views across the city.
Sultan Abdul Samad Building was originally the Colonial Secretariat offices, located in the old central part of KL; this historic landmark is famed for its Islamic-inspired architecture and its high clock tower. It’s also a gathering point for New Year and National Day celebrations.
Jamek Mosque, or Masjid Jamkek as it is known locally, was built in 1909 and is one of the oldest mosques in the city. It took its inspiration from the mogul mosques of India and has three elegant domes - it was one of the most dominate features in the city skyline before the new age of skyscrapers. Petaling Street or Chinatown is a fun and exciting area of KL, with many Chinese traders selling cut-priced and bootleg goods from designer bags to t-shirts and DVD’s. It's a great place to pick up a bargain, as long as you haggle - it's all part of the fun as the traders are friendly and funny. You can also eat very well here, there are a wealth of great Chinese restaurants in this area.
Batu Caves have been used by Hindu Priests since the 19thCentury and crowds of religious devotees visit the caves every January and February for the spectacular Thaipusam Festival. In this festival the devout will skewer a shrine to their body and walk from KL to the caves. Inside, you find a beautiful display of Hindu God statues, outside, criminal gangs of monkeys will steal anything that is not held down, although they are otherwise harmless...
