Hạ Long Bay in northeast Vietnam is famously known for its thousand towering limestone islands crowned by rainforests, all surrounded by startlingly emerald waters. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and about a four hour leisurely drive from Hanoi.
A night or two spent floating gently on the tranquil turquiose waters of Hạ Long Bay is highly recommended to improve any Vietnam holiday itinerary. Enjoying the glorious landscapes of this UNESCO-protected Wiorld Heritage Bay in a traditional junk boat is a major hightlight of a trip to Vietnam.
Take time to cruise slowly past the spectacular open limestone karst topography, meandering through the bay, and stop off here and there to jump in for a bit of swimming. You may choose to do some kayaking or even a little trekking through the surrounding hills, all punctuated with relaxation on gloriously deserted beaches. For all of these reasons, where possible, we do recommend experiencing the beauty of Hạ Long Bay on a trip to Vietnam.
