The serene, tropical paradise of Langkawi is located in the Andaman Sea, some 20 miles off the Malaysian coast. Langkawi has some of the finest beach resorts in Malaysia - it has a wonderfully fertile jungle interior and glorious mango forests, but it is the incredible sandy beaches that draw visitors to its shores.
There are wonderful expanses of nature to explore beyond the boundaries of this island's fantastic hideaway hotels. Perhaps take a guided trek through the jungle, past cascading waterfalls in search of monkeys, lizards and eagles, or head up Gunung Raya, the highest peak on the island. For even more fantastic views, take the cable car up to the top of Machinchang mountain from which you can appreciate the spread of Langkawi's lush valleys, rugged cliffs and clustered islets. From the shore there is superb snorkelling and diving, and the beaches are fantastic, easily accessible with dramatic settings. The golf courses are also highly regarded.
