Baghvan (bagh - tiger / van - forest) is a Taj Safaris / &Beyond lodge located on the edge of Pench National Park, only 5 minutes from the park gate. 12 elegant bungalow suites are spread among banyan trees overlooking a dry riverbed. Offering the usual Taj levels of luxury and &Beyond’s high standards of wildlife guiding, this the best lodge in the Pench area.
Pench National Park, the setting for Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’, is a typical central Indian teak jungle with hilly terrain, several jungle streams and a huge variety of birds and wildlife, including several predators. Baghvan is an elegant and luxurious lodge located right beside the park, only 5 minutes from the gate, overlooking a picturesque nullah (dry riverbed) which is a favoured route of local tigers.
12 spacious stand-alone bungalow suites are spread out along the nullah among teak and banyan trees. Each suite comprises 2 separate areas linked by a passageway, a private veranda (where breakfast can be served) and a rooftop ‘machan’, a covered but open-sided jungle platform with overhead fan, where guests can sleep out under mosquito nets if they choose. The communal area comprises a shaded decked dining area surrounding the swimming pool and overlooking the nullah, a separate library area, and an interactive kitchen where you can sit with the chef as he explains and demonstrates Indian cuisine.
Game drives are offered mornings (0600-1200) and afternoons (1500-1800), except on Wednesday afternoons - this is a good time to enjoy a spa treatment, visit the nearby Alikatta elephant camp or just relax in the lodge. The vehicles here are open TATA 4x4s with tiered seating for 6 guests. Elephant safaris and cultural walks may be available and we feel that this property is ideal for an Indian Honeymoon.
